My Big Bro (the one that introduced me to Paleo) gave me a reading list and a list of documentaries / films to watch regarding the food industry. I just watched King Corn and was sick to my stomach in less than 10 minutes. Did you know that the nutritional make up of the grain/feed that they give to cattle to fatten them up is the same basic nutritional structure as the FDA’s Food Pyramid? Let me put that another way… the food they give to cows to make them fat to provide more meat to the humans, is the same in the proportion as the Government wants us to eat to be healthy. How does that even begin to make sense? It doesn’t. Not even a little bit for my little brain.
I’ve been vehemently opposed to using any products that have high fructose corn syrup in it for a while and now I’ve seen how much deeper it goes than just corn syrup. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ear of sweet corn in the summer at a BBQ, but I’m really rethinking a lot of food at this point. Do yourself a favor and watch it. I rented it off iTunes, but I’m sure it’s on Netflix or Hulu or Amazon Prime as well.
On another note, I made the Dungeness Crab BLT with guac wraps last night. They were pretty amazeballs. I ate 2. Big Dude ate 3. Lil Dude had one (less lettuce, tomato and guac).
I was going to make crab cakes with the leftover crab, but Big Dude took a bunch of it to work. Maybe I can make adjustments to the recipe and do a half batch…
